| This error can occur when you receive a
PDF attachment in VersaMail, or someone
attempts to send you a PDF document.
What's happening?
This error occurs because of a conflict
between Adobe Reader for Palm OS (a product
of
Adobe Systems Incorporated) and the Palm
OS exchange manager (which determines how to
open certain file types).
Adobe Reader for Palm OS can not
open a native PDF file. Instead, you must
use a desktop converter, which is part of
the Adobe Reader for Palm OS package, to
create a file that's similar to a PDF
document but readable by the application on
your palmOne handheld.
However, Adobe Reader for Palm OS
registers with the Palm OS exchange manager
to launch files with a PDF extension,
including native PDF files. This leads to
unexpected behavior, since AdobeReader for
Palm OS does not read native PDF
files. All PDF files must be converted using
the desktop application.
Although VersaMail will let you download
the file it can not be opened or saved.
What should I do?
When a PDF file is received via VersaMail
and you attempt to open it:
- First you'll see the message
Transfer: Do you want to accept "document.pdf"
into Adobe Reader? Yes - No
- If Yes is selected the following is
displayed:
Adobe Reader: Failed to receive
beamed document
- Then you'll see:
Transfer: Error: Database: corrupt
database (0x0209)
- Adobe Reader for Palm OS is then
launched, but the document is not
available in the Adobe Reader document
list.
If this happens, ask the person who sent
you the PDF attachment to use the Adobe
Reader for Palm OS desktop application to
convert the native PDF file to a format
that's readable by your handheld. For more
information and to download the software
that lets you do this, visit
Adobe.com.
